Talk for Writing, developed by Pie Corbett and supported by Julia Strong, is powerful because it is based on the principles of how children learn. It enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally before reading and analysing it and then writing their own version. We have been using this strategy in school, you can see children in action below.
'If I was a Pirate' by Year 4 - The children have learnt the poem 'If I was a Pirate' and have added actions to help them remember the whole poem.
Pass the poem - Children read a sentence from the poem then passed it on to their friend.
Poem Battle - Children go against each other to remember the poem.
